Reclaimed Oak Finishes
Our reclaimed European oak can be supplied in a range of finishes depending on the timber, the application and the look of the project.
Finishes apply across our antique oak beams, boards, fireplace mantels and joinery timber. Each option highlights the natural character of reclaimed oak in a different way, from heavily textured original surfaces through to cleaner, more refined faces.
Rustic Finish
A rustic finish retains the strongest sense of age and history.
This finish celebrates the original surface of the reclaimed oak, including worn edges, aged grain, cracks, knots, saw marks, nail holes, tonal variation and natural surface texture. It is ideal for projects where the timber is intended to be a strong feature and where the character of antique oak is part of the design.
Rustic finishes are well suited to ceiling beams, feature beams, fireplace mantels, cladding, wall linings and statement joinery pieces.
Band-Sawn Finish
A band-sawn finish offers a more even surface while still retaining the warmth and character of reclaimed oak.
The timber is sawn to create a cleaner face with fine saw marks, giving it a more consistent appearance than a rustic original surface. This finish works well when a project needs a slightly more refined look while still showing the depth, texture and natural variation of antique timber.
Band-sawn oak is a good option for beams, boards, mantels, wall linings, joinery timber and furniture pieces where a balance between character and cleaner lines is needed.
A dressed finish creates the cleanest and most refined surface.
The timber is machined to reveal a smoother face while still retaining the colour, grain and natural variation of reclaimed oak. This finish is suited to projects where a more contemporary or refined result is required, especially for joinery, furniture, mantels and selected boards.
Dressed timber is size dependent and may not be available for every piece. Because reclaimed oak varies in age, shape, section size and surface condition, each board or beam needs to be assessed before dressing.
Dressed Finish
Choosing the Right Finish
The best finish depends on the application, the style of the project and how much original character you would like to show.
Rustic finishes offer the most aged and textured appearance. Band-sawn finishes provide a cleaner surface while keeping visible character. Dressed finishes create the most refined result, subject to the size and condition of the timber.
We can help select the right finish for your beams, boards, mantels or joinery timber based on your project requirements.
